Well it seemed like a good idea at the time, but there are some complications in getting cider production going, and there are complications in getting a business off the ground into the bargain.
Firstly there's the rules and regulations, then there is acquiring the fruit, then there's processing the fruit and finally there's the knotty problem of fermentation vats. All of that's fascinating, but what tied us up for a while was what on earth we would call the business.
So a meeting (hah, dinner) was called and a night was spent throwing around some ideas.
Obviously we're all Australian, and we wanted something that would be quintessentially Australian. We wanted something that would amuse the 4 of us to the core of our being (okay not a good move when you're branding - you're supposed to think about your customer base - all of that good marketing stuff). But we might know and have all worked in marketing and selling and businesses small and large for the last 25 years - doesn't mean we have to obey the rules.
So in a mildly distracting game of "Name of your First Pet / Name of the First Street you lived on" Snake Valley came up. From there happy happy memories of Steele Rudd's Dad and Dave emerged, a quick glance around the table and two of us realised we've married a couple of blokes not a million miles in attitude and looks from the Actor that played Dad in the early movies, and that was it - Snake Gully Cider it was.
Luckily we were able to register that name - so we now have a legitimately registered business called Snake Gully Cider.
